Monumental Half Marathon Indianapolis

Beautiful but cold race in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Length:21 km
Elevation:31 m
Route type:Loop
Pavement:Road
How to get there:The race starts in the city center of Indianapolis, very close to monument circle and the Indiana State House. There is ample parking to the south of the convention center, or on the IUPUI campus to the north west.
How to shorten/extend run:Shorten: There is a 5K race as well, but it is a different course so you cannot go from the half marathon down to the 5K easily.
Extent: There is a full marathon option, and the course is the same for the first 11 km or so, I guess you could switch to the full on the fly... but I am not sure what that will do to your race registration.
Water stops:There are plenty of water stops available, every couple of km.

Just a couple of weeks after my first marathon, I set a new PR for a half marathon! I finished the monumental half marathon in slightly over 1h and 27min, and I am very happy with the time. The weather was excellent for the race, albeit a little bit on the cold side. Temperatures started out around -3°C / 27°F and it warmed up a bit during the race. The sun came out 30 minutes into the race or so, making it a really great race. The course is pretty flat, and winds through downtown Indianapolis and into the northern part of the city. There are a number of sharp turns, and some segments of the course have uneven pavement and large potholes, so you should pay attention to where you are stepping!

Packet pickup was held in the convention center, which is just a block south of the starting line. Unfortunately for everyone not staying close to Indianapolis, packet pickup is only available one or two days before the race, not on race day. This race continues to be very popular with over 15,000 finishers and it was certainly very well organized.
