30 km Run in San Francisco
This was a run that turned from all foggy into all sunny within the first hour of the run. I hit some of the highlights of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, Presidio and the Golden Gate Park.
Length: | 30 km |
Elevation: | 460 m |
Route type: | Loop |
Pavement: | Mostly Road (some trail in Golden Gate Park) |
How to get there: | The run starts at the Presidio YMCA, which has paid parking and connection to bus lines. |
How to shorten/extend run: | Shorten: You could run across the Golden Gate Bridge and then return to the start, that would cut the run to about 12 or 13 km. Extent: You could add a few kilometers by running on the San Francisco beach, or down the Great Highway to the San Francisco Zoo. |
Water stops: | There are a few water fountains available on the route, most of them in the Golden Gate Park. There also shops near by, that may fill up your water bottle or sell you a bottle of water. |
The run started at the Presidio YMCA, close to the Golden Gate Bridge. There is plenty of paid parking available, as well as a good connection to public transport. I first ran across the Golden Gate Bridge and up to Battery Spencer. From this scenic overlook, I ran back across the bridge to Baker beach and then on to Golden Gate Park. After a loop through the park, I ran back up the hill to the Presidio and down to Crissy Field South Beach and the Crissy Field Marsh. After taking one last look at the Golden Gate Bridge, I wrapped up the run at 30 km.
